Echoes of the North Sea: Reimagining maps and unveiling their hidden narratives2023
This project combines anthropogenic sounds recorded underwater by the University of Rhode Island as part of their project  “Discovery of Sounds in the Sea” and redesigning a map made by the BHS (“Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency of Germany”), which was made as part of the “Ocean Noise: Turn it down a report on ocean noise pollution” by the International Fund for Animal Welfare and showcases the anthropogenic sound hotspots found in the North Sea.

By creating soundscapes that map on an auditory level the varied types of anthropogenic sounds found underwater and mapping not only the territory in which this is happening but also visualizing the effect it has on its marine life. This project aims to recreate this issue in the form of an installation, where the audience gets to experience the soundscapes and explore the map with their own bodies. By doing so, it aims to create a deeper understanding of this issue and create awareness.
